open + attentive

The Open Door is Sandi McRae Huszagh’s second collection of poetry. In works underscored by the ebb and flow of life and complexities of family, the poems are attentive to the often unnoticed forces of our world. mPrint designed the book and supporting materials with sensitivity to the collection’s poignant and tender nature. Available as a printed book and as an ebook. Purchase through Amazon or at theopendoorpoems.com.

The CCA national contest assesses the writing, photography, video and graphic design skills of cooperative communications teams.

The 2018 CCA contest had 610 entries from 58 different companies. Local cooperative Walton EMC took home several trophies including two second-place awards for publications designed by mPrint Design:

-Brochure Award, commercial services brochure
-Employee Publication Award, Two-Way Feed newsletter

The awards are judged by other cooperatives. They are conscious of industry and owner-member needs, so their recognition is especially meaningful. Congrats Walton EMC!

The EPA announced its WaterSense 2016 awards and Athens was represented! Congrats to the Athens-Clarke County Public Utility’s Water Conservation Office, named Promotional Partner for its Certified Blue Program. The EPA has nearly 1,700 WaterSense Partners and only 20 were awarded this year. mPrint worked with the Conservation Office to create brochures, site graphics, coasters, napkins, decals and certificates for Certified Blue – an innovative recognition program for area bars and eateries with good water stewardship.

Certified Blue design also won the Savvy Award for Excellence for Best Use of a Promotional Item. The Savvy Award was presented to Athens-Clarke County in September, 2016 in San Antonio.

Jessica Magnarella, designer and owner of mPrint Design, was recently selected for the board of directors of the Athens Area Arts Council (AAAC).

The non-profit organization strives to integrate Athens’ artists with area educational systems, economy, and culture. AAAC collaborates with area art organizations, offers artist grants and sponsors events that increase our community’s exposure to art. As a board member, Jessica will help with promotion, fundraising and events. She says, “art has been so integral to my life and such an empowering force – I’d love for others to be emboldened by it too. The AAAC has a 20 year presence in Athens. I’m looking forward to working with them for community-centered arts.” Visit athensarts.org

When Walton EMC, a local electric cooperative, asked mPrint to help promote their solar farm, we were radiant (bad pun, but seriously, what a bright idea). Earth-friendly energy solutions are a personal interest of ours.

Plus, this farm offers a leasing opportunity for members who might otherwise face barriers to solar such as high cost, poor roof angles, too much shade, or landlord restrictions. Walton EMC’s solar program, the largest community solar project in the eastern U.S. has been an incredible success. A second farm is already under way – with a waiting list! Coordinator Greg Brooks was recently featured in Stories of Solar, created by the Southern Environmental Law Center. Kudos, Walton EMC!

This year’s Ripple Effect Film showcase was standing room only as audiences packed the Ciné theater. The contest challenged filmmakers of all ages and levels of experience to create original short films about water conservation and stewardship.

mPrint Design created promotional materials and title screens for the show as well as coordinated film editing and event photography. We are pleased to be involved with this important event and enjoyed seeing the creative works of all the budding filmmakers. Kudos to Athens-Clarke County’s Public Utilities for creating a “ripple effect.” For more info, go to: rippleeffectfilmproject.org.

Creating affordable homes, supporting local agriculture, protecting the environment and … coffee? Yes! The Athens Land Trust’s Community Ground is a special blend grown La Selva Negra, a coffee farm that shares their mission for sustainable farming. All proceeds will benefit ALT’s work in Athens.

mPrint Design is a long-time supporter of the Athens Land Trust and appreciates their commitment to our community. We were thrilled to create an original illustration and design for the coffee label. Buy it in Athens at Jittery Joe’s, Big City Bread, Daily Co-op, Sips Cafe and The Fresh Market.

What are the effects of the catastrophic 2010 BP Gulf oil spill? ECOGIG researches the impact on the Gulf’s ecosystems and brings awareness through education and outreach. mPrint distilled ECOGIG’s information and designed/illustrated content-rich info-graphic style banners, an oil barrel wrap, and even a cornhole game, (yes, cornhole!) for their new series “Science at the Stadium.” Hundreds of visitors have had a chance to operate deep sea equipment, learn more about corals, and find out ways they can help mitigate further destruction of the Gulf. 13 years!

13 years!

September, 2015 mPrint celebrated its 13th year. “We feel much gratitude for our clients – most have been with us since the beginning and nearly all new contracts are due to referrals,” said owner Jessica Magnarella. Since 2002, mPrint Design has worked with well-established large companies, notable non-profits, and many small businesses. Numerous design awards verify mPrint’s creativity, but Magnarella is quick to point out that, “The real thrill is hearing that the design is integral to our client’s success.” Magnarella also noted mPrint’s commitment to the community. “We’ve donated thousands of hours to area non-profits – we love being an Athens business and are thankful that Athens has supported us.”

Murray Cappelmann and Jessica Magnarella of mPrint Design had the honor of judging the annual national communications contest for the Cooperative Communicators Association (CCA). They reviewed dozens of member publications for strength in content, design, and objectives. mPrint provided feedback for all of the entrants and the winners were announced at the CCA Institute in Pittsburg.

mPrint Design is no stranger to the contest. In 2013 and 2014, their work with Walton EMC won second in the Employee Publication category. mPrint feels fortunate to work with Walton EMC, a cooperative that values good design and good service.
